He’s also managed an outpatient behavioral health clinic at IU Health.

Dr. Heckman is a licensed psychologist who’s passionate about helping people live more balanced and meaningful lives. He works with children, teens, and adults. He currently only offers virtual/telehealth appointments. Dr. Heckman tailors his approach using a variety of evidence-based therapies like ACT, DBT, CBT, EMDR, and parent training. He’s especially interested in helping people understand the connection between mental and physical health—a belief that’s shaped both his personal and professional journey.

Areas of interest: Dr. Heckman likes working with anxiety, depression, childhood or adolescent behavioral problems, college-age clients, and athletes. He is a generalist in his practice and works with a variety of problems applying evidence-based principles to the presenting problem.

When he’s not working with clients, you’ll probably find Dr. Heckman with his nose in a book (mostly fantasy or science fiction), soaking up time with his family, or staying active outdoors. Dr. Heckman has always been drawn to movement and competition. He played football, basketball, and baseball in high school, and went on to play linebacker at Butler University. After college, he ran ultra marathons and became a competitive powerlifter—experiences that continue to inform his belief in the powerful link between body and mind. He brings warmth, curiosity, and authenticity into every session and loves walking alongside people as they grow into healthier, more grounded versions of themselves.

Dr. Heckman is seeing clients via telehealth.
